Pramono Invites Berlin to Collaborate in Making Jakarta a Global City

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, emphasizes the important role of global partnerships in realizing the vision of Jakarta becoming one of the top 50 global cities by 2030.

Pramono also emphasized that the transformation of Jakarta cannot be achieved without collaboration.

He delivered this statement as the keynote speaker at the opening of the AsiaBerlin Summit 2025 in Berlin, Germany on Monday (11/24).

"Our goal is to bring Jakarta into the top 50 global cities by 2030. Transformation can't be done alone; we need global partnerships, and Berlin is a strategic partner in this journey," he expressed, in the Jakarta government's press release, Wednesday (11/26).

He then outlined three priorities in city renewal, namely improving the quality of public transportation, strengthening energy transition policies, and developing green open spaces.

He mentioned that expanding the Transjabodetabek network to seven surrounding areas, increasing the use of electric buses from 420 units to 10,047 by 2030, and building 300 new green open spaces are concrete steps currently underway.

"We are building a greener, cleaner, and more humane city, not only modern in infrastructure but also sustainable," he explained.

On this occasion, he also brought several Indonesian startups to showcase the strength of the local digital ecosystem. Among them are Crustea, which offers IoT for sustainable fish farming; Indera Agri with precision farming; and Inspigo, which develops AI on-demand education.

This step strengthens Jakarta's position as part of the Asian innovation landscape. Pramono also emphasized that Jakarta is not only a consumer of global technology but also a producer of ideas, talent, and innovation from Southeast Asia.

Lastly, he then invited all parties to strengthen collaboration and the sustainability of the relationship between the two cities. Because Jakarta and Berlin face similar challenges, namely in mobility, climate change, population growth, and inequality.

"Rather than walking alone, we can serve as an example that cities around the world can work together to find solutions, not just compete. I invite Berlin to come to Jakarta and build the future together," he added.

His presence also signifies an important diplomatic milestone in the 31st anniversary of the Jakarta-Berlin Sister City partnership, which began in 1994.

This annual forum brings together city leaders, investors, policymakers, and technology ecosystem players from Asia and Europe to strengthen global collaboration in the field of innovation.
